Having just arrived from Mexico, the logical question was “what’s going on in Seattle?” Amazingly, the Cinerama theater (two blocks from our condo) was hosting the original Batman and Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward) as part of the preps for the Seattle Comicon. Deb jumped online and probably got the last two tickets. What an amazing evening! Adam and Burt answered questions for about 30 minutes. Adam West still looks amazing at 84 years of age and he was very glib and dry (as he always was!). Burt Ward has not aged all that well. He had been a black belt in karate when he tried out for the part of Robin. He was selected out of a field of 1000 candidates during the first interview. They told him not to act — he was Robin! Well, there was probably too much beer and a few too many Bavarian Creams between then and now! Anyway, they both were having fun and the audience loved it!
With the interview over, the audience was primed to watch the original Batman movie. I had forgotten just how campy it was. What a riot! Unfortunately, the quality of the print was pretty bad, but it did little to dampen the mood. Lots of hooting, hollering, cheering, and clapping. A great way to spend an evening!
