Villahermosa is actually the capital of the state of Tabasco (and no, not like the sauce – it’s made in Louisiana). It is primarily an industrial state, with a lot of their income from oil. We stopped here to visit a local park and zoo (La Venta) to see some amazing examples of Olmec (one of the oldest Mayan cultures) art and the influence it had on later Mayan cultures. It also marked the end of our tour. We really enjoyed our time in Chiapas and getting to know our driver/tour guide, Damian (for most of the week, we had been calling him David and he never corrected us – how embarrassing!). Anyway, we are off to spend four days with our son and his business associates in Playa del Carmen and then back to Puerto Vallarta. Another great trip!
