Our first stop of the day was at Duke of York Island, one of 13 islands that make up a group of the same name. All of the islands are low-lying and subject to flooding. But we were here for a snorkeling expedition, so that wasn’t an issue. What was an issue was that this reef was significantly deeper meaning having to dive down to get close to things. While we did see a number of beautiful things, on one of the dives I felt a sudden sharp pain. By the time I got back to the ship, it was excruciating. I went to the ship’s doctor (who was fabulous) and got the pain under control as well as the diagnosis — kidney stone. The question was whether I was going to be able to pass the stone naturally. The pain seems to come and go in waves which, apparently, means the stone is on the move. I guess that’s good news. Anyway, until this resolves itself, my wings are pretty well clipped.
